Dangal 1st Week Total Box Office Response
Aamir Khan’s Dangal is singularly focused at breaking every Aamir Khan box-office record till date in addition to any record Salman or Shah Rukh might hold. At least, that’s what the box-office reports suggest. Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is based on the struggle of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become world-class wrestlers. Aamir’s performance as Mahavir Singh Phogat has been widely praised. The Phogat girls, Suhani Bhatnagar and Sanya Malhotra as Babita and Zaira Wasim and Fatima Sana Shaikh as Geeta, have also earned plaudits from audiences and critics alike for their acting.
So far, up until Wednesday, Dangal has grossed almost Rs 277 crore worldwide, with Rs 177 crore coming in from India and another Rs 100 crore coming from overseas collections. Interestingly, Dangal also surpassed the opening weekend box-office collection of Salman Khan’s Sultan which was also based on wrestling. Sultan grossed Rs 105.34 in its opening weekend (calculating first three days of release as opening weekend; Salman’s Sultan released on Wednesday while Aamir’s Dangal released on Friday). As of this moment, the Aamir Khan-starrer is this year’s third highest-grossing Hindi film after Sultan and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.
Anyhow, Dangal has been one week for film since it has released over box office and today is the seventh working day. It showed a good growth over the weekend but then started dropping later on. It faced a considerable drop of around 25-30 % in the morning shows and showed a further growth of around 10% in the evening and late evening shows and scored an overall nice at the box office. The first week box office collections are among highest grossers of all time and 1 week figures are also pretty good. Today Thursday being a weekday the film did decent and performed good in metro cities.
Total collection mad by Dangal on its 7th day is around 20.29 Crores making its one week total income in India to stand at nearly 197.53 Crores. The film is continuing to collect at very high levels and the Tax Free status in some parts of the country is further helping footfalls. That has resulted in 197.10 crore* already coming in which is tremendous by all standards, especially when one considers the fact that one day is still remaining in the week. Though there is no national holiday per se, there would still be good benefit for the film since the weekend falls on the last two days of 2016 and first day of 2017 which should provide further impetus.
