The new Hindi offering of this week, Chef has been released with much buzz and expectations among audience, but has not come out so well. One of the ace directors in Bollywood, Raja Krishna Menon’s this drama film has received favorable response from most of the viewers as well as critics, but get failed to maintain atleast a decent pace over the weekend.
Due to its good content, flawless direction and wonderful performances by the lead stars- Saif Ali Khan, the movie has impressed critics but hasn’t attracted much audience toward theaters throughout its opening weekend across the country. Couple of weeks back released Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 has reported comparatively good performance in its third weekend.
On the opening day, Chef opened with only 10% of occupancy on around 1570 screens in India and did the poor business of 1.05 crores with overall 15% of occupancy. On Saturday, the movie didn’t witness any growth in its business and added the amount of 1.35 crores to its account.
On the last day of weekend i.e. Sunday also, Chef reported decent growth and minted the amount of only 1.60 crores, which has made its opening weekend total collection as 4 crores on domestic box office. To register a reputed opening week total, the movie has to remain steady in weekdays which doesn’t seem easy for it so far.
The film tells the story of Roshan Kalra(Saif) a three-star Michelin chef who gets fired from New York’s Gulli restaurant after he punches a customer. Forced to take a break, he flies to Kochi to spend time with his son, Armaan (Svar Kamble) and his estranged wife Radha Menon (Padmapriya Janakiraman).
The trip turns out to be a fruitful one because he manages to mend broken family ties and even begins afresh by starting his own food truck.
