This Friday released Hindi offering, Chef has taken a dull start at box office. Due to low-budget and less promotions, it did not have much pre-release hype among audience but still it had little to survive for a week, as it is featuring Saif Ali Khan. Let’s see how the film has opened at the box office.
His last film ‘Rangoon’, which also starred Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor, received good reviews but performed miserably at the box office. He must be having a lot of expectations from his latest project Chef, directed by Raja Krishna Menon. It is the official remake of John Favreau’s 2014 film of the same name.
On the opening day, Raja Krishna Menon’s recent venture Chef started the day with low occupancy of 15% across the country. Due to mixed reactions of audience as well as critics, it witnessed slight growth in its occupancy from evening shows. At the end, it recorded the business of 1.05 crore with 16% of overall occupancy on domestic box office.
The movie has reported better response from the state Maharashtra than other regions of the country, as Saif has good fan base there. Without audience support it won’t be possible for Chef to rake satisfactory business on box office.
It has to show jump on Saturday and Sunday, to achieve at least an average tag. Let see how it will manage to perform better. The previous release Judwaa 2 starring Varun Dhawan has opened on a much better note on its second Friday running.
Simultaneously, from this week’s Hollywood releases viz. Blade Runner 2049 and Victoria & Abdul, while the first has opened on a decent note and is expected to grow, the second which features Ali Fazal faces an uphill task at the domestic box office.
