2016’s highest opening weekend Grossers
With Dangal’s numbers coming in, we now have a complete list of top 10 highest grossing films of 2016. While Aamir Khan has managed to jump up to the second position with his wrestling biopic, he still fails to beat Salman Khan. The 50-year old actor’s Eid blockbuster, Sultan enjoys it’s first position in the list of highest opening weekend grosser with Rs 180.36 crore. Dangal, on the other hand has earned Rs 106.95 crore. For various factors including how Sultan had a longer weekend, Dangal hasn’t been able to become the year’s highest opening weekend grosser. But with the response it’s getting at the box office, it is pretty evident that the film will rake in good numbers.
The film has beat Sushant Singh Rajput’s MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’s weekend collection by a huge margin. While Rajput’s biopic earned Rs 66 crore in it’s opening weekend, Khan’s biopic has raked in Rs 106.95 crores. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Dangal Fri 29.78 cr, Sat 34.82 cr, Sun 42.35 cr. Total: Rs 106.95 cr [incl Tamil and Telugu]. India biz. FANTABULOUS!” He further also added, “#Dangal day-wise growth in biz… Sat 16.92% Sun 21.63% India biz… OUTSTANDING!” It was expected that the film will cross the 100 crore mark in the opening weekend itself. While Salman, Aamir and Sushant’s films have made it in the top three positions, check out who are the top 10 films.
