Opening Day Collection of Begum Jaan
Vidya Balan’s much-awaited film Begum Jaan has finally released. The remake of Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali film Rajkahini, Begum Jaan released on around 900-1100 screens on Friday. The film started on a decent note on its opening day. It saw around 15% occupancy on the morning shows, reported Bollywood Hungama. Vidya Balan plays a titular role of a madam of a brothel who tries to protect 11 s*x workers in the face of a looming crisis post India-Pakistan partition.
Begum Jaan took a very dull opening considering it was a holiday. The occupancy was around 15-20% but its coming on a holiday for Good Friday and Ambedkar Jayanti and the collections are going to be poor even with the holiday factor, forget real value Early trends shows that Begum Jaan has collected Rs 3.94 crore nett at the Indian box office on the first day. The audience, who watched Begum Jaan in the first show, say that the movie boasts of a thrilling and intriguing script, brilliant performances by Vidya Balan and good production values.
The word of mouth will help the movie go on from strength to strength over the weekend. The film will beat the record of Begum Jaan, which collected Rs 12 crore at the Indian box office in the first weekend. This Hindi period drama film, it is written and directed by National Film Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Vishesh Bhatt and Play Entertainment. The film is co-produced by Sakshi Bhatt and Shree Venkatesh Films with executive producer Kumkum Saigal.
The cinematography is done by Gopi Bhagat. Lyrics, Additional screenplay and dialogues have been penned by Kausar Munir and Rahat Indori. TVidya Balan plays the lead role of a brothel’s madam, set in the backdrop of late Indian Independence period of 1948. It is Hindi remake of the Bengali film Rajkahini (2015). Begum Jaan is loosely based on Shyam Benegal’s 1986 movie “Mandi”.
