Bajirao Mastani 12th Day Box Office Collection
Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra’s Bajirao Mastani has beaten Dilwale at the box office in India, if the day-to-day box office collections are anything to go by. Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra’s Bajirao Mastani has done what several big-banner films haven’t been able to in the past. The trio took on Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s latest film Dilwale when their film hit the screens on the same day – December 18 – and have emerged the clear winner among the two. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic war drama Bajirao Mastani was slightly behind Rohit Shetty’s out-and-out commercial flick Dilwale when the films opened in theatres, the former is soon to overtake the latter at the India box office.
As of the second week, Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale are both in the Rs 100-crore club as far as their domestic box office collection is concerned. However, the gap between the business of the two films is really narrow after ten days at the box office. Bajirao Mastani picked up pace at the box office after the initial slow days, while for Dilwale, it has been the other way round. In their second week, as of now, Bajirao Mastani has earned Rs 120.45 crore compared to Dilwale’s Rs 123.88 crore. Both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani had to endure protests from fringe groups when the films hit the screens.
While Bajirao Mastani, it was alleged, had ‘misrepresented history’, Dilwale’s lead star, Shah Rukh Khan’s comment that ‘intolerance is on the rise in India’ was the reason behind the protests against the film. On its 2nd Monday, it has witnessed almost 40% of drop and minted the amount of 6.55 crores* as its 11th day collection. Till the end of the day, total collection of Bajirao Mastani is recorded as 127 crores* on domestic box office. Today being its second Tuesday, the response towards the movie was already expected to be low because normal weekdays always results in less collection than weekends.
On its 12th day, Bajirao Mastani has made the business of 5.95 crore* from Indian screens. Bajirao Mastani is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s adaptation of a book on Peshwa Bajirao I and his second wife Mastani and first wife Kashibai. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone essayed the titular roles of Bajirao and Mastani respectively. The film saw Priyanka Chopra bringing to life Bajirao’s first wife Kashibai.
