Last Friday saw three films of different genres hitting the theatres, but Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Baby’, which released the week before, has pipped them all in terms of collections. And among last week’s releases, ‘Khamoshiyan’ is doing better business than ‘Hawaizaada’ and ‘Rahasya’ put together. Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Baby’ Box Office Collections may have failed to reach Rs 100 crore mark in its opening week in spite of having good all-round reviews, the movie has done better than others so far in 2015. Despite a slew of releases, ‘Baby’ has shown excellent growth over the second weekend to generate good business at the box office. ‘Baby’ box office collections on weekend 2 had been Rs 2.85 crore on Friday and Rs 3.99 crore on Saturday, before jumping to Rs 5.81 crore on Sunday, because the dull performance of the new releases like ‘Khamoshiyan’ and ‘Hawaizaada’ at the box office. The movie’s overall business stands at Rs 78.47 crore from 11 days. Akshay Kumar’s biggest grosser is ‘Rowdy Rathore’ (Rs 133.25 crore), which made it into the Rs 100 crore club in 11 days. While Akshay Kumar’s latest outing “Baby” has done superb business at the worldwide box office in 11 days, the movie has failed to beat the records of previous Republic Day releases “Agneepath”, “Race 2” and “Jai Ho”. Movies released on Republic day have proved to be big hits at the domestic as well as overseas box office in the recent years. The success of “Agneepath” (2012), “Race 2” (2013) and “Jai Ho” (2014) have made the Bollywood filmmakers believe that this is another auspicious occasion to release films after Dussera, Diwali, Christmas and Independence day. “Baby” has a good storyline that suits the mood of patriotism. The film has an ensemble cast, superb production values and was massively promoted. Moreover, it has been creating positive buzz in the media, ever since it went on floors. Hence, trade experts in B-Town had predicted that it would smash the records of previous releases. Released in a large number of screens across the globe, “Baby” opened to good response and showed decent growth on the following days. The Akshay Kumar starrer has collected 80 crore nett at the worldwide box office in 11 days. But the collection of the film is far below the benchmarks set by previous Republic day releases – “Agneepath”, “Race 2” and “Jai Ho”.
