“The satellite rights of Hindi version of Baahubali 2 have already been sold for a whopping amount. Sony Entertainment Television has acquired its rights for Rs 51 crore plus tax,” a source close to the production team of the film told International Business Times, India. “This is the highest price for the TV rights of any Indian regional movie. This is also one of the highest prices paid for original Hindi films,” the source added. Directed by SS Rajamouli, there is a huge frenzy around Baahubali: The Conclusion. Even the first instalment of the franchise had enabled the makers to earn huge moolah before release.
However, earning Rs 51 crore plus tax for satellite rights of just the Hindi version of Baahubali 2 is certainly a huge thing for the makers of the film. Earlier, the satellite rights of Baahubali: The Beginning (languages combined) was sold at Rs 45 crore to Star India. The TRP rating of the movie was reportedly at par with Salman Khan’s blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
There were also reports that the makers of the second instalment had demanded Rs 50 crore for its overseas distribution rights. Starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati among others, Baahubali: The Beginning was a huge success and now fans are eagerly waiting to know the million dollar question – Why Kattappa killed Baahubali? Baahubali 2 is slated for release on April 28, 2017.
