Baahubali 2 Total Pre-Release Business
Director SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (Baahubali 2) starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati, has become the first Indian film to cross Rs 500 crore mark prior to its release. Bahubali: The Conclusion is the sequel to blockbuster movie Bahubali: The Beginning. The huge success of its prequel and the curiosity fuelled by the question, “Why Kattappa killed Bahubali?”, had raised the demand for movie’s rights.
Many leading distribution houses, music labels, TV channels were in queue to pocket the theatrical, audio album, satellite, digital streaming and other rights of Bahubali. Bahubali 2 has fetched a total of Rs 122 crore from the sale of distribution rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/T), Rs 164 crore from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other northern parts of India, Rs 64 crore from North America and other international markets. The Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starrer has earned a total of Rs 350 crore from global theatrical rights.
Lahari Music has acquired the music rights of Baahubali 2 for a whopping Rs 4 crore, while Zee Music has shelled out Rs 6 crore for the Hindi audio. Sony Entertainment Television has bagged the satellite rights of the Hindi version of Baahubai 2, while Star India acquired the TV rights of Telugu and Tamil versions.
The digital streaming, international versions, animated series, TV series, books, graphic novels, exclusive VR and other non-theatrical rights have fetched over Rs 60 crore for the makers. Trade experts claimed the total pre-release business of Bahubali 2 is likely to cross the mark of Rs 500 crore– the highest ever in the history of Indian cinema.
