Akira 4th Day Collection; Gets Decent Response, due to Ganesh Chaturthi Holiday

Box Office: Akira Fourth Day Box Office Collection

Sonakshi Sinha-starrer “Akira” has been maintaining a steady pace at the box office. Although the film’s 1st and 2nd day collections were almost similar, “Akira” witnessed growth on its 3rd day (Sunday) of the weekend. Released on Sept. 2, box office collection of “Akira” apparently suffered on its first day as it was a nationwide strike. The Sonakshi-starrer had collected Rs. 5.15 crore nett at the Indian box office on the opening day. While it was expected that “Akira” will show decent growth on Saturday earning, the film had made a collection of Rs. 5.30 crore on the second day, taking its total earning to Rs. 10.45 crore.

Now, early estimates suggest that “Akira” collected Rs. 6.20 crore at the domestic market on day 3. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the action movie will enjoy a 4-day long weekend as Monday is a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi. Made with a budget of Rs. 30 crore (cost of production Rs 22 crore + prints and advertising Rs 8 crore), “Akira” had recovered half of the total cost through its satellite and music rights which were sold at Rs. 15.5 crore. The film had received mixed reviews from the critics but apparently has been enjoying good word of mouth and that will certainly help boost its box office collection.

While “Rustom” craze has fade away now and “A Flying Jatt” could not make much impact at the commercial circuit, “Akira” is likely to have a good run at the box office in the coming days. Now the film has entered in weekdays, where all films get lower response due to normal working days. On Monday, due to holiday on accounts of Ganesh Chaturthi, Akira has received decent response and added the amount of 3.40 crores as its 4th day collection. “Akira” might face tough competition from “Baar Baar Dekho,” starring Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif, which is slated to be released on Sept. 9. Thus, the first week will be crucial for Sonakshi’s film and it should make maximum collection in the coming four days.
