Action drama Aiyaary hit the big screen on February 16. And it has had an extremely slow opening at the box office. The movie, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee, Rakul Preet Singh, Pooja Chopra, Adil Hussain, Kumud Mishra, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. Aiyaary’s main plotline revolves around two army officers, essayed by Malhotra and Bajpayee, who share a mentor-protege relationship with each other.
The film was originally supposed to arrive on the weekend of 26th January. However, with Padmaavat and PadMan moving around with their release plans, the Neeraj Pandey film had to push ahead a little. Nonetheless, the spy thriller has seen a solo release for itself and that too on an appropriate count of screens (1750).
On the other hand, Sidharth Malhotra starrer Aiyaary is getting mixed reviews from critics as well as audience, but still the clash is affecting it’s performance. Also the existing one Padmaavati and last week relased PadMan is not ready slow down.
On Friday, director Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary reported an average occupancy in theaters and did the business of 3.36 crores. On the next day i.e. Saturday, due to weekend time, it showed decent growth and collected 4.04 crores, raised it’s 2 days total collection to 7.40 crores.
Amongst these, only Ittefaq emerged as a reasonable success due to low costs involved. However, Aiyaary is an expensive film and hence would have to do a lot better than what Ittefaq did in its lifetime [30 crore] to even come close to being a coverage affair. There is a lot of ground that Aiyaary needs to cover from this point on and these are going to be crucial days ahead.
