Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s Bulleya
Karan Johar is again turning the pages on that most complicated of all things in this world, love, in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. From pure romance to pure sex, the relationship is so layered that it is hard to give it a name. In Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s second song Bulleya, Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are caught somewhere in-between these two extremes. Aishwarya, the touch-me-not Aishwarya we know, is a smouldering mass of desire in the song and it is such a thrill to see her like this. Ranbir matches her step to step in this dance of passion. Their chemistry is so real that you can feel it oozing off your screen.
We see a teary-eyed Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan in the song too but our eyes search for Ranbir and Aishwarya when they are not there. Unlike Aishwarya and Ranbir, the relationship between Fawad and Anushka is more longing. “Main kisi ki zaroorat nahin khwahish banna chahti hoon,” Aishwarya tells Ranbir and we do a high-five. This is the comeback of Aishwarya we were waiting for.
The song’s music and lyrics are liberating. Essentially a sufi track — a genre director Karan Johar loves so much — the song has been composed by Pritam. It has been beautifully rendered by Amit Mishra and the lyrics are by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Karan’s films are peppered with Sufi songs, which showcase the lead pair’s relationship like nothing else and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is no exception.
