Opening Day Collection of Rock On 2
Bollywood movie Rock On 2 starring Arjun Rampal, Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor, has received a poor opening response and is likely to do average collection at the Indian box office on the first day. Rock On 2 is a sequel to 2008 musical drama Rock On and the huge success of the original had created a lot of hype and curiosity. The makers have had massive publicity for the film with the lead actors visiting several cities for promotion. But its producers were sceptic about its prospects at the Indian box office due to the government decision of the demonetization Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes.
The huge hype and promotion failed to translate to big bucks following almost nil advance booking for opening day. As predicted by trade analysts, Rock On 2 opened to poor response in the morning and matinee shows across the domestic market. The movie registered an average of 10 percent occupancy in multiplexes and seven percent occupancy in single screens around the country. The poor response shows that the ban on the currency notes has taken a toll on the collection of Rock On 2 in the first two shows.
The movie was expected to show growth in the evening shows. But it has received mixed response from audience and critics, who say that the movie has a good story, but lacks the charm and magic created by its prequel. The word-of-mouth may also affect its business. Rock On reportedly collected Rs 6 crore at the Indian box office on its opening day.
Considering its hype and promotion, Rock On 2, which was released in 1,700 screens in the domestic market, would beat this record. But if we are to go by early trends, Rock On 2 is likely to collect less than Rs 2.02 crore at the Indian box office on the first day and may not beat the opening day business of its prequel.
