Chiyaan Vikram’s “Iru Mugan” has landed in an unexpected situation in Karnataka, and the Tamil movie is unlikely to see the light of the day in the state this week. The massive protests being staged by pro-Kannada groups and farmers’ unions over the Cauvery water-sharing issue have put the release of the movie in trouble. “Iru Mugan” was getting ready for a big release in Karnataka, and the film was expected to hit over 100 screens in the state. Now the Kollywood film is unlikely to be released on Friday as the pro-Kannada groups have called for a bandh in the state against the Supreme Court’s order to Karnataka to release 15,000 cusec Cauvery water every day to Tamil Nadu for 10 days.

Moreover, some Kannada groups have reportedly threatened theatres against screening Tamil movies. Hence, the much-awaited Vikram-starrer may not be released in Karnataka this week. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has extended its support to the bandh and cinema activities will come to a standstill on Friday. “Iru Mugan” is being released in over 1,000 screens worldwide. The Telugu version of the film, titled “Inkokkadu,” is also simultaneously hitting the screens on Friday.

It is getting terrific response on ticket windows before the release. Reportedly, tickets of the Vikram starrer are selling like hot cakes in its dominated region Tamil Nadu. In the United States alone, the movie is scheduled to be out in 87 screens. The upcoming Tamil film has been written and directed by Anand Shankar and produced by Shibu Thameens. Nayanthara and Nithya Menen are the female leads in the flick, which also stars Nassar, Thambi Ramaiah, Bala and Karunakaran. “Iru Mugan,” features Harris Jayaraj’s music, RJ Rajasekar’s cinematography and Bhuvan Srinivasan’s editing.
