Azhar Second 2nd Day Collection: Saturday Performance on Box Office

Azhar 2nd Day Box Office Response

The Emraan Hashmi starrer Azhar has released yesterday and the film has kickstarted it BO journey on a good note Azhar had a fair opening in mass centres especially in Gujarat where the morning numbers were pretty good. The metros of Mumbai and Delhi did not open well. Overall the opening is around the 30% mark. This is actually better than most films released this year but some of these films managed to improve well in the evening and if that happens with Azhar then it will be a solid first day.

The opening of Azhar is the better than the last Rs 6.30 crore releases of Emraan Hashmi but its short of a Jannat 2 or Raaz 3. The impact of doing weird films like Shanghai, Ghanchakkar etc has made a difference to the opening of his films. Azhar is going to be relying on word of mouth especially in North and East india. Gujarat starting well is a plus and its a high contributing area and also sustains very well. This will probably mean that Mumbai circuit will do best on day one even though collections in Mumbai city are not that good.

In UAE-GCC, Tony D’souza’s directorial raked the commendable business of AED 0.4 million i.e. 72.72 lacs on the opening day, which is the highest ever opening of Emraan Hashmi’s career so far from there. In India, it started the day with 35% of occupancy and witnessed decent growth from evening shows, especially in multiplexes. Overall it reported the occupancy of almost 40% across the nation on Saturday. Azhar showed decent growth on its second day. The film started off on a low note but picked up decently on its second day. It collected 8.15 crores* on its first Saturday.

The film now stands with a two day collection of 15+ crores at the domestic box office. Azhar is expected to continue its upward trend on Sunday. Although, the film is facing a stiff competition from the Hollywood release Captain America Civil War thus making the weekend collections lower for this film. The weekend will tell how the film fares at the ticket window. Azhar also stars Prachi Desai and Nargis Fakhri in key roles. It is based on the life of former Indian Cricket Team captain, Mohd. Azharuddin.
