Salman Khan’s latest box office offering Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has scaled new heights. In three weeks, the Sooraj Barjatya film has been able to cross the Rs 400-crore mark in terms of its worldwide box office collections. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which hit the screens on November 12, opened to a fabulous response both in the country and abroad. In India, this Salman Khan-starrer earned Rs 40.35 crore on its first day. Over the next two days, the film managed to cross the Rs 100-crore mark at the domestic box office. In three days, the box office collections of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo stood at Rs 101.47 crore.
“Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” is now looking forward to beat the worldwide lifetime box office earnings of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Chennai Express”. However, the box office earnings of “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” has declined drastically after the release of “Tamasha”, making it difficult to achieve more than “Chennai Express” lifetime gross income of Rs 423 crore. Meanwhile, Salman’s “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” has created a record by becoming the biggest Diwali grosser ever.
At the domestic box office, “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” is the seventh highest grosser, while at the overseas box office, it is the eighth highest grosser. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo marked the reunion of actor Salman Khan and director Sooraj Barjatya after 16 long years. The last time Khan and Barjatya had worked together for a film was for the 1999 Hum Saath Saath Hai. In addition to that, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo also saw Salman getting back to his on-screen lover-boy avatar Prem. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had Salman Khan essaying two roles. Apart from Khan, the film starred Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Swara Bhaskar and Armaan Kohli in key roles.
