Mani Ratnam’s latest Tamil outing O Kadhal Kanmani, which has been raved about by critics and audiences alike, has minted over Rs.14 crore at the box office worldwide in the first four days since its release. “The film has approximately collected Rs.14.73 crore from both its Tamil as well as dubbed Telugu versions in four days worldwide. Despite the onslaught of Kanchana 2, which has already turned out to be a super hit, Mani’s film has impressed the multiplex audiences,” trade analyst Trinath told IANS. Touted to be Ratnam’s comeback to the romance genre, the film is set in Mumbai and follows the story of a young couple Aadi and Tara who decide to live together even before marriage. Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen in the lead roles, O Kadhal Kanmani has given Ratnam a much needed hit after his last outing, Kadal, not only bombed, but also burnt the pockets of several distributors.

The response in Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh has been good. “OK Kanmani” has made an equally impressive collection in the US Box office. The reports suggest that the collection of the film’s Tamil as well as Telugu versions has been outstanding at the box office since its release on 17 April. The film is riding high on words of mouth publicity. Released in 750-800 screens worldwide, “OK Kanmani” was released with Raghava Lawrence movie “Kanchana 2″ which is also making huge business across the globe. Film on the first weekend maintained its reputation quite well and took lead over other co release horror comedy Kanchana 2. Tuesday i.e. 5th day Income of OK Kanmani is around Rs 2.2 crores approx from South Indian regions. Now that the weekend time has gone so it is quite difficult for the film to sustain with high figures.
