Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 has released in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages and by the looks of it, the movie has garnered a massive opening with 70 to 80 per cent occupancy on Day 1. Most patrons are Thalaiva loyalists. The movie has even beaten Baahubali 2 when it comes to its screen count.
2.0 is currently playing in 6800 screens across the country. There are around 32,000 to 33,000 shows alloted pan India. The Shankar directorial is currently expected to garner around Rs. 40 crores or so on Day 1 as of now. Another factor which is working in favour of the Rajinikanth – Akshay Kumar starrer is the fact that the movie has released at an opportune time, with no competition from the previous releases as such.
Till yesterday, the advance booking trends were not-so-good for the sci-fi thriller excluding southern states, but from the response of morning shows it seems that the 2.0 fever is started growing even in the north region. In the northern belt too, it is ahead of Race 3 (55-60%), Baaghi 2 (45-50%), Sanju (55-60%) and Thugs of Hindostan (40-60%) in terms of morning occupancy.
2.0 is the first Indian movie to be shot in 3D and also the most expensive one with a budget of 550 plus crores. It is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot in Hindi) and is helmed by maverick director Shankar.
2.0 has been making news for its sensational visual effects and the fact that Akshay Kumar has been roped in to play the villain opposite Rajinikanth! Together, they are expected to create havoc at the box office. With the reviews and word of mouth coming out, the film is expected to grow over the weekend.
